Context
Behavioural finance uses psychology to try to understand the irrational phenomena, which are very frequent, observed in finance. It challenges the theory of efficient markets by observing "behavioural biases" of emotional or cognitive origin, which disrupt rational decisions.
Behavioral biases negatively affect the performance of a portfolio and lead to a sub-optimal risk/return trade-off. Understanding the main behavioral biases and taking action to moderate them can improve portfolio quality, avoid certain unrewarded risks and better advise clients.
