Data, AI, Cybersecurity: Data Management Is Becoming Strategic
October 1, 2026
In light of the ongoing shift toward digitalization, banks are paying increasing attention to data management.
The rise of artificial intelligence (AI), process automation, cloud computing, and digital platforms is rapidly transforming the banking and financial sector. In this new environment, the ability to leverage, secure, and govern data is becoming an increasingly sought-after skill. According to research conducted by the ISFB Observatory*, data mastery is now a key driver of change in the banking industry.
To help professionals navigate these new requirements, the ISFB offers a Certificate in Data Management specifically designed for industry professionals with no prior IT training.
Skills in Demand in the Age of Data
In practical terms, this trend is not limited to the emergence of new specialized roles. Research conducted by the ISFB Observatory also highlights a growing demand for data-related skills among non-IT professionals, such as reporting specialists, central database administrators, and anyone else who works with data.
Among the skills that are increasingly in demand are, in particular, data analysis and management, an understanding of the mechanisms of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and the ability to interpret and leverage available information for decision-making.
Governance Issues
While technological innovation offers new opportunities in terms of operational efficiency, service customization, and risk management, it also gives rise to new requirements for data management.
Beyond operational needs, rigorous data management is essential due to regulatory requirements related to data protection, the traceability of data processing, anti-money laundering, and the explainability of artificial intelligence models, all of which require financial institutions to implement robust governance frameworks. The quality, reliability, security, and availability of data thus become critical factors in banks’ compliance.
Data management has thus evolved. From a simple support function, it has become a strategic capability at the heart of organizational transformation. The value of data also depends on the ability to understand, govern, and leverage it. Behind this technological challenge lies a broader issue: that of the skills and organizations capable of creating value in the world of tomorrow.
