Who are the people concerned by skills assessments at the OCE?
In 2022, the cantonal employment office recorded an annual average of 664 jobseekers in the banking sector, out of a total of over 15,000. The majority have a university degree (65.8%), while just over a quarter have a secondary education (Matura or CFC). These are people with a good basic education. However, in recent years, with the disappearance of banking secrecy, new regulations and the rise of fintechs, the world of banking has undergone a profound transformation. It's a sector on the move, and some people need to take stock to determine whether they still have the skills required to re-enter the job market in the field, whether they need to perfect their training or project themselves into a new profession. The skills assessment - which we prefer to refer to at OCE as a "market positioning assessment" - is an invaluable asset.

What is the average time it takes to find a job in the banking sector once you've become unemployed?
In 2022, the duration of job search was 266 days for people from the banking sector, compared with 303 days for all jobseekers, and the proportion of long-term jobseekers was 35%, compared with 33% for all jobseekers. Unsurprisingly, among the long-term unemployed, senior citizens are more represented (49%) than for all jobseekers (38%). In a context of staff shortages, as is currently the case, it is possible that this will change in favor of this group in the future. In some sectors, this is already the case. We're starting to call on seniors again, and even retirees.
