Interview with Danièle Felley: Guaranteeing Financial Advisor Excellence with ISFB SAQ CWMA Certification
March 31, 2025
In a fast-changing industry, SAQ CWMA certification is establishing itself as an essential quality standard. Danièle Felley, an expert in oral examinations at ISFB, shares her experience and underlines the importance of this certification in guaranteeing financial advice that meets both regulatory requirements and customer expectations.
Ms. Felley, you are an expert for the SAQ CWMA oral exams at the ISFB, where you take part in the SAQ CWMA certification preparation program. Can you tell us about your experience as an exam expert?
As an expert in the SAQ CWMA oral exams, I assess candidates rigorously and to the highest standards, to ensure that those who achieve certification are genuinely ready to advise their clients with a high level of professionalism. My aim is to ensure that future advisors master the technical aspects of the profession, understand and anticipate their clients' needs, while respecting the high standards of the Swiss financial center.
Each exam is a key moment, both for the candidates and for me as an expert. It's not simply a question of testing knowledge, but of assessing a professional's ability to translate his or her knowledge into relevant, structured advice adapted to the requirements of the profession. Through this exercise, I ensure that SAQ certification remains a genuine guarantee of quality and competence, ensuring that certified advisors bring real added value to their customers and their establishment.
Can you tell us about your academic and professional background?
My background is atypical: I first immersed myself in practice before delving into theory. I spent years in the field accompanying customers, before consolidating my skills with several federal certifications and diplomas.
I went on to obtain the AZEK / CWMA federal and European finance and investment expert diploma, as well as the federal financial planner's certificate, the BVG specialist's certificate and finally the occupational benefits consultant's certificate. This academic progression, built on a solid foundation of practical experience, has enabled me to acquire an in-depth, global vision of financial and wealth management issues.
Professionally, I've had the good fortune to work for leading institutions: 23 years with Credit Suisse as head of Wealth Planning and Private Banking in French-speaking Switzerland, followed by 7 years as head of Baloise Bank in French-speaking Switzerland, and then 7 years with AXA Vie in French-speaking Switzerland. These experiences forged me and taught me that, in this profession, excellence is not only based on technical knowledge, but also on the ability to listen, understand and support customers in their life decisions.
Why do you think SAQ certification has become a strategic asset for banks?
Today, the role of financial advisor is no longer limited to managing banking products. It requires a global approach, a detailed understanding of wealth management issues and the ability to support customers over the long term, within an increasingly demanding regulatory framework.
SAQ certification is a strategic asset, as it provides external, recognized validation of advisors' level of competence. It guarantees that they have the knowledge and skills required to meet customer needs with professionalism and relevance.
For banks, it's a real guarantee of quality and differentiation. A certified advisor doesn't just sell a product; he or she knows how to ask the right questions, structure a wealth analysis and provide solutions tailored to each customer's unique situation. Against a backdrop of increasing competition and ever-stricter regulatory requirements, having a certified team enables banks to strengthen customer confidence and position themselves as benchmark partners in financial advice.
In your opinion, what are the strengths and specific features that make the ISFB's SAQ CWMA training and certification program so rich and high quality?
ISFB doesn't just train candidates to pass an exam: it prepares them to excel in their profession. This certification should not be seen as a mere formality, but as an opportunity to improve and reach a high level of expertise.
The program's strengths are based on several pillars:
- Certification training that meets the high standards of the Swiss financial center: ISFB's SAQ CWMA certification program is more than just a label; it reflects the high standards demanded by the banking industry. It guarantees that certified advisors adhere to best industry practices, in line with the expectations of regulators and customers alike.
- Rigorous and demanding technical assessment: The aim is to ensure that certified advisors are truly capable of providing quality advice to their customers. This involves a structured examination designed to assess not only technical knowledge, but also the ability of candidates to apply this knowledge in real-life situations.
- A pragmatic and realistic customer approach: The exam puts candidates in real-life situations, challenging them to demonstrate their ability to conduct a structured interview, identify customer needs and make relevant recommendations. It's a validation of their ability to exercise their profession with excellence.
Ultimately, this program doesn't just train advisors, it shapes real experts capable of meeting the challenges of today's and tomorrow's banking world. For candidates, it's recognition of their commitment and professionalism. For the banks, it's a guarantee of trust and quality.
